No not the Fiesta, calm your tits. Well actually it is the Fiesta.

Now when it comes to cars, living in the UK has some nice pros to go with the mountain of bullshit cons. The pro in this case is our extremely varied selection of vehicles available for purchase, heck even the Mustang will be available next year so imagine my anger and rage when I found out the one of car I really want is not for sale in the UK. Yes the Fiesta ST. Or more specifically the 5 door. I'll be blunt I hate 3 door cars but I love Hot Hatches and the Fiesta ST is one of the best out there but alas it ain't for me.

Also seriously carsuk.net why show a car that won't be sold in the UK!

I'm the opposite. I really don't like the looks of the five-door Fiesta, or indeed pretty much any other five-door supermini—at least, not nearly as much as their three-door equivalents. So, I'm glad they're selling the three-door here. Still, it'd be great if they just offered both.

*thinks of all the Alfa Romeos you can buy*

(I own a 5-door Fiesta ST)

Looks don't bother me but practicality does. For me back seats should equal back doors.

I would cry tears of joy too as I rolled past the lines of overheating Alfas in my 5 door FiST, while congratulating myself for choosing wisely.

I guess the idea that they don't sell them here is half the reason I want one so bad...

I'm willing to make the sacrifice on practicality for the sake of the looks. Five doors just doesn't look right on most supermini-sized cars to me—hell, until recently, it didn't really look right on family-size hatches. They've gotten quite a bit bigger recently, so the current Focus, for example, actually looks alright with five, but I'd still have a Megane with three.

Which Alfa in particular? Honestly there is nothing appealing to me in their current range. Even the 4c just looks like a fat overpriced Lotus to me.

I get what you are saying on some cars the doors just look too small and it gives the car a whole squashed look. Curiously though would you ever own an ugly car?

4C is one of my dream cars. The 159 and the Brera are just amazing looking.

I did like the 159 and the Brera but they no longer sell those and the Mito and the Guilietta are horrific looking to me.

It is hilarious how both sides of the pond want the other one but really, the 5-door is probably the better one (as an American). Hell, I bought one myself I like it so much. Loading up the back with people or things is stupidly easy because of it. And I still have plenty of room.

Here, let the soothing voice of john davis wax on about the Fiesta ST.

I would, but only if I had a good reason. I'm not really in a position to need five door practicality right now - the only people inconvenienced would be friends and the occasional family member; I don't have to worry about kids or anything - so I can prioritise looks. Of course, I couldn't afford a brand new Fiesta ST, either, so there's that.

Essentially, my priorities when it comes to picking out cars are:

1. Fun. It has to be fun to drive.

2. Looks.

3. Reliability. It doesn't have to be perfect, but I've neither the skills nor money to support a truly unreliable car.

4. Practicality. I'd prefer a hatch - I really like hot hatches anyway, and older Peugeots in particular - but I've considered various coupes and roadsters.

Watching MotorWeek, I get what Matt Farah is talking about when it comes to independence but you're right there is something soothing about John's structure when it comes to presenting.

I understand. It's so much more useable having 5 doors, even on a smaller car. I think they do it to encourage those who want practicality to upgrade to a focus.

That could be the case because I think only the Clio, Fabia and Polo have 5 door versions of their performance model so it isn't like it is only Ford doing it.

Heh, five doors does actually suit the Panda rather well. It accentuates the general boxiness. On sleeker designs, though... It just tends not the fit the lines. Here's what I've got my eye on at the moment:

I hate when people call the 3 door Fiesta the "Fiesta Coupe". It's exactly the same as the 5 door, but missing back doors. I've seen them, they don't look better. We got the better end of the deal. Hidden rear door handles wouldn't hurt the Fiesta's styling though.

Maybe it's them trying to target younger drivers who they think don't care about practicality. Not only is that not true (I'm 20 and having 5 doors was very useful a couple days ago when trying to get a full exhaust system into my panda.), young people under 24 mostly cant afford hot hatches these days due to insurance and such.

I've always wondered about the 306, they look pretty eye catching but facts and figures wise they don't seem all that quick. That doesn't matter if it handles well though.

Buying cars is hard at this age. I'm 21 and so 9 out 10 times when I find a car I want, the insurance costs nukes the idea.

I got lucky since I managed to find a car that fits what I wanted (a little unusual with a reasonable bit of power ,good handling and fits 4 adults.) That was also cheap on insurance (£700 fully comp). I did miss out on some stuff I really wanted due to insurance though.

I've never driven one, sadly, but they're supposedly excellent handlers - and I can believe it, owning another Peugeot of the same generation - and the performance figures are actually slightly misleading. In the nineties, Peugeot always did their 0-60 ratings and such with a full load of passengers, fuel and luggage, to help keep insurance premiums on their cars relatively low.

Owners - though they aren't the most reliable source, naturally - generally report 0-60 times up to a couple of seconds quicker than the official figures would suggest possible, and those few that have actually dyno'd their stock cars generally find slightly more horsepower than advertised. I've never bothered to actually check, but my 106 certainly feels a lot nippier than its 14-and-a-bit-second official 0-60.

That makes sense actually, I've noticed some facts and figures are artificially changed for insurance purposes. Fiat rates a lot of their lower power cars (panda fiat 500 punto) as topping out at 99 because anything over 100 affects insurance I think. I can tell 99 isn't correct since I hit 90 on an empty motorway and I had a lot of the rev range left to go. Some other 500 and panda owners have mentioned similar things. I've heard a fair few of the 80s and 90s hot hatches were considerably under rated too.
